my experiences and goals
My favorite way that someone has described me before was said by my friend, who said that I was like a sponge that loves to learn, experience, and absorb everything that I possibly can.
With my dream career of immersing myself in the field of genetics and becoming a genetics counselor, I hope to help families understand their own genes and children, as it is so important to learn about that aspect of yourself, as it could affect their lives and is a way of knowing who they are as people. Not only is it important for the public to better understand their inherited genes, but it is just as crucial for scientists to never stop discovering the many mysteries of the human genome and the effects that our DNA can have on us, either genetically or phenotypically. This is a major reason why genetics have always piqued my interest; There are so many consequences that our genetics have, and there is always so much more to bright to light. The STEM classes that I have taken so far for my biochemistry major, as well as my beyond-the-classroom experiences of being a Peer Leader at the Student Success Center and helping students and my research lab work, are only the beginning of my involvement in the career path that I plan to carve out for myself. |
